Ulva
rigida, C.Ag.
Characteristics
Irregularly
lobed sheets, 10-15 cm across or small rosettes 2-5 cm hig; colour
is a little darker green than with the other Ulva species; in cross
sections near the margins, the cells are about as long as broad or
slightly longer parallel to the surface; sections from the central
and basal parts of the blades show cells that are about 50 µ
long and 8-12 µ broad, arranged in a palissade like fashion
inside a 10-13 µ thick, colourless thallus wall; thickness of
the thallus may be 140 µ because of the extremely well developed
